Rehabilitation
At Knuckle Hill Equine Works your horse’s recuperation is
my first priority. Whether your horse is suffering from a soft
tissue injury, recovering from surgery, dealing with the
aftermath of a laminitic episode or coming back from
neurologic damage the road to recovery is time consuming
and demanding for the average horse owner.
At Knuckle HIll attention is placed on every aspect of
rehabilitation, including:
*Proper nutrition for the stall-bound horse to stave off
ulcers while maintaining good weight
*Strict attention to medications and supplements
*Monitor vitals for signs of infection or pain
*Bandaging changes as requested by veterinarian
*Cold and heat treatment, pressure wraps, and
additional modalities to
help speed healing and
attain mobility
*Physical therapy/massage if approved through
veterinarian
*Mental stimulation to combat boredom
*Hand walking, rain or shine
*Transportation to and from veterinary clinics for
rechecks/additional treatment and scheduling
rechecks while in my care.
*Adjustable paddock size as horses are allowed
turn out
Once a horse is ready to start into low level work again
we do lots of walking. We walk in straight lines with
balance and cadence, which is exactly what a horse
coming back from an injury finds difficult.
Horses recovering from a neurologic issue like EPM
have additional challenges. The program here involves
training the horse to think about footfall. I use multiple
ground surfaces, hills, stretches and massage to help
regain muscle memory. An awareness of where the horse
may try to avoid using his body is key to recovery.
All of my work is focused on getting your horse back to
good health and you back in the saddle.
The monthly rehabilitation fee is $700 to $800
depending on the level of care needed.
